Pamlico Community College’s Special Graduate

On May 16, 2025, student Harvey Rountree graduated with his associate degree in human service technology at Pamlico Community College. This was a special moment, as it was the first time a student from Pamlico Correctional was able to participate in a main campus graduation with the general public. Student Rountree entered the HST program in the fall of 2022 at Pamlico Correctional.

He was student of George Royal. Harvey was released from DAC custody to Havelock NC on April 30, 2025, but not before meeting all of the requirements of his last English class to graduate the program.

Mr. Rountree was supported by his family at this event, and it was truly an amazing feeling to see the pride in his teenage son's eyes as his father received his degree.

When speaking with Mr. Rountree after the ceremony he thanked Mr. Royal and Ms. Grammer for pushing him through and assisting him to this moment.

He also states that he was able to obtain a job at Lowes Home Improvement a week after release! He also emphasized how may thing have changed since he was incarcerated such as the price of groceries and haircuts, but he was grateful for the training he was able to obtain on the laptop since technology is used for everything around him now.
